Formatting… Press was founded in 2023 by Ashley Blewer (she/her) and Travis L. Wagner (they/them).
Ashley is our Managing Director.
Ashley Blewer (she/her) is an archivist, educator, and software engineer. Ashley is the author of the Illustrated Guide to Media Formats series (published by Archives of Tomorrow) and the Pragmatic Guide to Audiovisual Preservation (published by Digital Preservation Coalition). She is an active contributor to many open source software and resources for audiovisual preservation. Her go-to karaoke songs are “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift and “Last Resort” by Papa Roach.
Travis is our Managing Editor.
Travis Wagner (they/them) is a lecturer in the University of Maryland’s College of Information Studies where they also serve as the associate director of the Center for Archival Futures (CAFe). They teach courses and research topics highlighting the complex ways that institutionalized technology and information represent community identities and the radical innovative ways these communities reframe and rework technologies to creative affirming archival records. This work has led them to realize the value of obsolete formats (both physical and digital) in sustaining cultural heritage during times of exponential data creation and distribution. Their go-to karaoke song is “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls.
